

James T. Cahill of Wilmington, North Carolina died on June 27th, 2008 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center due to complications from cancer. Born June 25, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Mary Rita Herlihy and William J. Cahill and he was the beloved husband of Ann Gearity for 47 years. He leaves behind a daughter, Anmarie and son-in-law Jim Galowski of Ridgefield Connecticut, son Timothy and daughter-in-law Kayla of Yarmouth Maine, son Bill and daughter-in-law Lori of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and brother Bill and sister-in-law Eileen of Kings Park, New York. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Shannon, Travis, Christiana, Morgan, Sean, E.J. and Jordan. He was a graduate of St. John's University in New York and was a minor league baseball pitcher in Boston. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served in the United States Air Force. He retired after 30 years from the Allstate Insurance Co and relocated to Wilmington from Baldwin, Long Island in 1993. He was an active member of the St. Marc Roman Catholic Church, past member of the Cape Fear Chordsmen, and active with the Board of Directors of the Inland Greens/Cedar Ridge Communities. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and travelling up and down the East Coast with his wife Ann to visit with their many friends, family and especially their grandchildren. A wake will be held at the St. Marc Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 1st from 930-11am, followed immediately by a Funeral Mass at 11am. In lieu of flowers, any memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 2222 S. 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
