James Edward Cross

James Edward Cross, 83, of Hampstead, NC, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Durham, NC, on June 13, 1924, the son of the late Dural Bennett and Laura Mae Honeycutt Cross. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Faye Cross, a grandson, Michael Cross, a daughter-in-law, Linda Cross, and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Cross was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. Surviving is his wife of sixty-three years, Goldie Hanley Cross; two children, James M. Cross of Durham, NC, and Jean Rowland and husband Clem of Hampstead, NC; three grandchildren, Kerry Cross and wife Gretchen, Tony Rowland and wife Jackie, and Scotty Rowland; a granddaughter-in-law, Katie Cross; six great grandchildren, Amber and Jordan Cross and their mother, Teresa Cross, Collin Rowland, Alexis Rowland, Beth Cross, and Karson Cross. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel, Hampstead, NC, and other times at the residence of Clem and Jean Rowland. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, Durham, NC.
