James Lee Holloway

James Lee Holloway, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully with his sons by his side on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life and Care Center. He was born in Durham, NC, June 2, 1923 the son of the late Walter Franklin Holloway, Sr and Tessie Beck Holloway. James was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hudson Holloway and two sisters, Doris Holloway and Rebecca Hall. James was a 1941 graduate of Durham High School where he was on the wrestling team. During World War II he served in the US Army in the Philippines with the 38th Infantry Division. After the war he graduated from NC State in 1950 where he was a member and president of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and served on the Memorial Tower committee. He worked for Parke-Davis Pharmaceutical for 33 years, retiring in 1988. A lifelong member of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church, James served as an Elder and Sunday School Secretary for many years. He spent many enjoyable hours gardening and working in his yard. He is survived by two sons, David Sears Holloway of Cary, NC and Richard Kirk Holloway Irma of Hull, GA, three grandchildren, Kim Marie Shupe Chris, Charles Douglas Holloway Kristi, and Irma Lynn Sirmans Chris, seven great grandchildren, one brother Walter Franklin Holloway, Jr Crosby, four sisters, Helen Gurley Tuck O.C., Grace C. Proctor Bill, Peggy Thompson Samuel, and Mattie Lucille Holloway., also 6 nieces and 9 nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. June Highfill officiating.
