

James William Manning, 76, of Burgaw and formerly of Wilmington passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at his home. He was born in the community of Molly in Columbus County, NC on October 3, 1934. His parents were Henry Manning and Frances Helen Simmons Manning. Jim lived most of his life in Wilmington until his retirement. He was a talented auto mechanic for many years operating several service stations, including Manning Pure Oil Service Station. He then served as a Special Police officer at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center retiring with the rank of SGT. He is survived by his son, James ""Jimmy"" M. Manning and his wife Jeanine, two daughters, Victoria Manning and Christi Fuhr; three grandchildren, Hawke, Olivia, and Magi Smith; brother, Raymond Manning; sister, Vera Burton; nephew, Carl Manning, Jr.; and his loving and faithful companion, his cat ""MudDuck"". Remembered are his wife, Laura Ellen Manning and his son Dean Manning both of who preceded him in death. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 to 8 pm Friday at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 am Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the graveside in Sea Gate Cemetery, S. 52nd Street, Wilmington.
