

He was born July 5, 1962 in Pender County, to the late Henry Floyd Pickett and Barbara Garner Pickett.
On New Year’s Eve 2007, he married Beverly Lee Brannon in Wilmington, NC. Together they shared 18 years of love, life and laughter.
James worked most of his life in the asphalt and grading industry. He began with Dickerson and APAC, and in 1999 helped form G&H Construction – now part of Port City Paving & Grading. He was a master of his craft – greatly respected for his knowledge, ability and dedication to his work.
He loved his family, classic cars, NASCAR, classic country music and lima beans and biscuits. He was a quiet, private man who was raised to work hard and provide for those he loved.
James is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; mother Barbara Garner Parish of Leland; sisters Wanda Lue Pickett (Don Spann) also of Leland and Judy Pickett Joye (Chris) of Wilmington; brother Henry Floyd “Tye” Pickett Sr (Judy) of Wingate, NC; children Elizabeth Virginia “Didot” Pate, Robert Henry “Robbie” Pickett (Crystal Brazier) and Lillian Christine “Boop” Pickett; his grandchildren Cody Lee Starling, Elijah Shane Mack, Shyenne Louise Mack, Jakoby Ray Caison, Aiden James Pickett, Joseph Henry Pickett and Annabelle Sophie Pickett - all of Rocky Point and Currie; sisters-in-law Barbara Brannon of Spur, TX and Betty Brannon of Jacksonville, FL and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service.
A graveside committal will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 6, 2018 in the Pickett Family Cemetery in Rocky Point, NC.
