James Worden

On December 24,1931 a beautiful soul was born. James Melvin Worden came into this world. Known to everyone as "Uncle Jim" passed peacefully on September 14,2026 and was reunited with his beautiful bride Barbara in the house of the Lord. Jim always had a smile on his face...always a kind word...a true gentle soul.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, his family moved to Louisville Kentucky as a young child. He was the son of Melvin and Irene Worden. In school he participated in the drum and bugle corp both in high school and college. Jim also participated in the ROTC program in high school and college. He attended Indiana University (go Hossiers!) and a die-hard Packers fan.

After college he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Michigan for his 8 years of service. After leaving the Air Force he worked for New York Life and Bankers Life. Jim and Barbara also worked for Marcao Marketing Corp where they traveled around the United States writing Chamber of Commerce booklets.

After many cold and snowy winters in Wisconsin they moved to Leland, North Carolina. Jim was a member of the Basilica of Saint Mary and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Irene Worden, his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Phyllis Bidwell and survived by his sister-in-law Jeannie Laughlin and many nieces and nephews.

A mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11am, on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary in Wilmington North Carolina.
