Jane Dalziel Hobbs of Wilmington went to sleep and simply stopped breathing on Monday, May 20, 2013, after a long illness. She was born March 14, 1927, the only child of the late J. Raymond Hobbs and Lillie Mae Jenkins Hobbs. A memorial service will be held at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street on Friday, May 24, 2013, at 10 AM with Rev. Jim Everette presiding. Jane loved animals, traveling, working in her yard, and mathematics - not in that order. After teaching math in the public schools for thirty years, she travelled and worked in her yard as long as her health allowed her to do so. When she could no longer take care of herself, she asked for help. Her neighbors of many years responded as did her closest kin in Wilmington, first cousin Lonnie B. Williams and Lonnie B. Williams, Jr. who saw to her care for the last three years of her life with the help of a number of kind and considerate people who volunteered their tender love and healing touch, Ginger Lee, JaLisa Neal, Lynda Harrison, Linda Jackson, Sabrina Staggers, Myra Burnett, Rita Daniels, Yolanda Webb, and Lisa Powell. In addition to the above, she is survived by first cousin Rev. J. Dewey Hobbs, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC, and half first cousins. Jane was a graduate of New Hanover High School and Wake Forest University. Jane loved Wake Forest. Her worldly goods she gave to Wake Forest and her body she gave to the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center -- it was all she had to give.
