Jane M. Pearce

Jane was the daughter of the late Shelton and Pauline Morris of Raleigh. She was born on May 9, 1926 in Raleigh, NC, and later married the Charles Clifford Pearce also of Raleigh. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clifford Pearce and her son David Wayne Pearce. Jane and Charles were members of Wrightsville Beach United Methodist Church and raised their family in Raleigh and Wilmington.

Jane was educated in Raleigh and graduated from Needham B. Broughton High School and Peace College where she received an Associates Degree. She then worked for NC State Government while waiting for her dear Charles who served in the Navy during World War II. Upon his return they married and began their family. Jane was a loving mother to her two children David Wayne Pearce and Anna Ortman. She gave unselfishly of herself in the raising of her two children and grandchildren, David Shelton Pearce, Brian Dean Ortman, and Jessica Pearce. She is survived by her daughter Anna Ortman and her grandchildren along with her great grandchildren, D.J. and Amore’ Pearce. She received and shepherded her family to the end with great joy. She is also survived by her beloved sister-in-law, Sue P. Buehlmann of Raleigh, NC and her niece and husband Lynn and Charles Tillman of Wilson and several nieces and nephews.

Her later days were spent with her many friends at the Woods at Holly Tree where she resided for 12 years. The family wishes to convey their thanks for those friendships and that of her special friend and neighbor of 40 years, Sue Bulluck. The extension of thanks goes on to those caregivers of Martha’s Adult Care Service and especially to Terry, Johanna, and Diane to name a few. They helped keep her spirits high and did much for our “Nanny”. We also acknowledge the help and kindness of all the staff at Holly Tree who over these many years have allowed our “Nanny” to have special comfort and feelings of safety and well being. Her desire to remain there until the end was clear.

Services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Coble-Ward Funeral Home in Wilmington, NC. Visitation is from 5:00 - 6:30pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service. A graveside service and burial will take place on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Holly Springs City Cemetery Holly Springs, NC at 11:00am.
