Janice Earliene Harrelson Carr, of Wilmington, N.C. (formerly of Prince Frederick, Maryland), passed peacefully on July 17, 2026, with the loving company of three daughters and one special granddaughter.
Janice was welcomed into Heaven by the Lord and reunited with the love of her life, James William Carr, before the sun had risen.
Janice was born on May 12, 1937, in Whiteville, North Carolina, to Eva Bernice Bowen and Ralph Glee Harrelson. She was the oldest of twelve children.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Holly Carr; son, Terry Carr; son, Ricky Carr; son, Gary Carr (Rhonda); daughter, Vicky Carr; daughter, Candy Carr Darago (Michael); daughter, Wendy Carr; stepson, James Parish (Caren); stepson, James Bogue; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James William Carr; her mother; her father; and two siblings.
Janice attended Miller-Mott College, where she received her degree in Business Administration. Her accomplishments stretched from being a part of the National Genealogical Society and World of Poetry. She was the den mother of the Boy Scouts of America, and she was recognized and published several articles, books, and stories.
Janice won many awards in poetry, including winning the U.S. flag and Maryland flag for her Boy Scout troops. She volunteered at the church and also the nursing home, but her greatest accomplishment all started at a bus station in Virginia, where she met a man named James.
James William Carr and Janice were married after three months. They had seven children together, but nine in total. Out of everything Janice had ever done, being their mother was her life’s greatest blessing. The blessing of being a mother gifted her the joy of being a grandmother, watching her children become parents and even witnessing some of her grandchildren become parents.
Janice was a fantastic writer. Turning ordinary words into fantastic literature was a gift of hers. Her passion was genealogy, where she would research for hours.
Janice will forever be remembered for the wife, daughter, sister, friend, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother she is. She has left her penmanship on everybody she has met.
A visitation of family and friends for Janice will be held Thursday July 23, 2026 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Funeral following at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street Wilmington, NC 28401.
Interment to rest for eternity next to her husband Jimmy will be at 11:15 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026 at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Robert S Crain Hwy., Cheltenham, MD 20623.
The family gives special thanks to the Pallbearers: Ronnie Wines, Shane Wines, Colton Fortini, Kadan Smith, Bladen Carr, Mike Darago and Honorary Pallbearers: Terry Carr, Ricky Carr and Gary Carr.
