Janice grew up in Spring Hope, NC where she was a member of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church. She attended Spring Hope High School and after graduation in 1953 she moved to Asheboro NC to work for a Railroad Company. In the late 1950’s she moved to Wilmington NC where she met and married the love of her life Rex. She worked for WECT for several years until they started a family. Janice was a member of Temple Baptist Church for many years where she shared her talents and faith by singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. Janice retired from New Hanover County Schools where she was employed for over 25 years in the payroll department.
Janice found her deepest peace tending to her garden, where she would spend hours planning and preparing the food it produced. Her greatest joy was being with her family and watching her grandchildren grow. She loved every opportunity to hold and adore a baby. She always cherished time spent playing with the grandchildren. A gifted cook and baker, Janice delighted in preparing meals for her family. She never hesitated to put on an apron, if it meant bringing comfort or happiness with a home-cooked meal. Her famous pound cake became a family favorite at every celebration. Sunday dinners especially at her home will be fondly remembered by her children and grandchildren.
She loved to laugh and treasured the company of family and friends, always eager to host gatherings that brought everyone together. Humble and full of Southern charm, she made everyone feel welcome- and when she affectionately called you “shuug” you knew you were considered part of the family. Janice will be remembered for her calm and gentle spirit, an easy going grace that brought kindness to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and everyone who was privileged enough to know her.
The family would like to extend the warmest appreciation to Hospice Life Care and the devoted care team- Nurse Joy, Jazmin and Jae who showed such love and commitment to Janice and our family over the last several months.
