J.B. was born on April 7, 1929 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late John Bert Stevens, Sr. and Maude Mable Hill Stevens.
He is also preceded in death by five sisters, Virginia, Margie, Louise, Ruby, Marie and his sister in law, Nadine Walker.
He served honorable in the Korean War in the U.S. Army detached to the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary. In his earlier years, he coached little league baseball, he volunteered many years to the Telephone Pioneers as a coach of the “Beep Ball” for the blind. He also was a member of the American Disable Vet, VFW and CWA. He was employed by Southern Bell and AT&T for over 30 years until his retirement. He loved fishing and golfing.
J.B. is survived by his High School Sweetheart, Inez Bryant Stevens; sons, John W. Stevens and wife Pamela L. Stevens, Joseph M. (Mike) Stevens and wife Marilyn D. Stevens; 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home with Father Bob Kus of Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary officiating.
Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Michael Stevens, Joshua Stevens, Scott Bauer, Jason Daker, Jack Dunn and Wayne Kidd.
