Jeanette Wood

Connie Jeanette Sykes Wood was born in Halifax County, NC on October 3, 1930, to the late Thomas May Sykes and Dollie Millie Melton Sykes.  She and her twin sister Jean were the youngest of nine children.

She graduated from Enfield High School in 1949.  She married Havard “Jack” Wood in 1953.  Along with their daughter Lisa the couple moved to Fairborn, Ohio where Jack worked as an engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force base.  They raised two more daughters, Joni and Donna.  Jeanette was a grandmother to Donna’s two sons, Joshua and Isaac Evans and she was great grandmother to three girls and one boy.   She and Jack retired to Hampstead NC where they enjoyed golf and gardening.

Jeanette passed away on December 21, 2022.  She is survived by two daughters, Joni and her husband Nick Gruber of Tuscaloosa, AL and Donna Wood of Hampstead NC, Donna’s son Joshua and Samantha Evans and their two daughters McKenna and Delanie and Donna’s son Issac and his son Junior and daughter Isabell as well as many nieces and nephews in her extended family.  She was preceded in death by all of her siblings and their spouses except for John Taylor, husband of her twin sister Jean.

A private family gathering will be held.  In lieu of flowers Memorial donations may be given to the Amedysis Hospice, 1729 Southport Supply Rd, Suite A, Bolivia, NC 28422.
