Jeffrey Edward Bernstein, 78, of Kure Beach, NC, passed away on March 31, 2021.

Jeff was born on July 14, 1942 to Bernie and Esther Bernstein in Detroit, MI. After graduating from Oak Park High School in 1960, he went on to study at Wayne State University. After many years of owning his own men’s clothing store he made a career change and became “The Cookie Man”. He worked for the Great American Cookie Company for 30 years before he retired. Being the entrepreneur that he was and never wanting to fully retire, he obtained his real estate license and became a realtor for Coldwell Banker Seacoast Advantage.

Jeff was a family man. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. He was wise. He was strong. He was kind. Jeff was always dressed impeccably and was hardly ever seen without his cardigan and crazy socks. To know him was to love him. He never met a stranger. Jeff was a lover of good wine, cigars and fine dining. He was the most loving husband, father and friend anyone could ask for.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 35 years, Maureen Bernstein of Kure Beach, NC; daughters Marci Presnell (Bruce) of Wilmington, NC, Brittany Robson (Jonathan) of Marietta, GA and Courtney Stuckey of Kingstree SC; 7 grandchildren Jeremy Southwell, Zackary Presnell, Peyton, Emery and Gavin Robson, Aidan and Sawyer Stuckey; sisters Charlene Rismann (Andrew) of Waterford, MI and Sandra Lefkofsky of West Bloomfield, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernie and Esther Bernstein; sons Justin Bradford Bernstein and Daniel Stephen Bernstein and his grandson Colin Ryan Love.

There will be a funeral service at 3pm on April 9 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to service time. A live stream of the service can be viewed at the following link: https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/85535492

In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Life Community Church (PO Box 3489 Wilmington, NC 28403) in his honor.

Jeff will never be forgotten, nobody can take away our good memories of such a good friend.
Always ready to listen and to help, we are very grateful to have met this family back in 2007 when we moved from Massachusetts.
Jeff changed also our definition of Knee Replacements! Right after having a knee replacement Maureen and Jeff came to my (Marcia) birthday party and there he was dancing like a teenager! I (Marcia) said “But Jeff what happened? You are in your best today!” He answered “my new knees my dear, my new knees”. And we laughed.
We also had moments of tears rolling from our faces together and that is what made/makes this a real friendship. Love you forever dear friend.
Maureen, Marcy, Brittney, Courtney and all the beautiful grandchildren, you are in our hearts. Love to you all. Marcia & Tony.

Jeff was my mentor in the cookie business and so much more. I will always remember the week I spent at his and Maureen's home in Albuquerque, NM and at the cookie store in Santa Fe. Jeff was always encouraging and was always happy to hear from me at any time. I will miss him and our talks. I wish the best to Maureen, Courtney, Brittney and Marci. May his memory be a blessing. He was the best.

Marci,
I know just how much your dad meant to you and how special he was. He always had a smile and a hug for me when we visited. There are no words to take away the pain of this loss. Hold on to the knowledge of how very much he loved you.

Hugs,
Brandi
