Jessie Howard Straughn

Jessie Howard Straughn, of Wilmington, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center. He was born in Sampson County, NC, April 17, 1917 the son of the late Evander and BeEattie Quinn Straughan. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Mr. Straughn served for four years in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and had retired from Rippy Cadillac after 27 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Janie B. Straughn, son Ronald Straughn and wife Linda, grandson Garrett Straughn, two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Lamb and Mrs. Betty Cain, two brothers, Perry Straughan and Harry Straughan, and a very loving and large extended family and many friends. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2 PM, prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. David Wade and Rev. Margaret Hockett officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, 1406 Physicians Dr, Wilmington, NC 28401 or to the Wesley Memorial UMC, 1401 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28403.
