Jessie Davis Rogers

Jessie Davis Rogers went peacefully to be with Jesus after a long, courageous journey with Alzheimer’s Disease March 11, 2025 with her family by her side.  She was born in Wilmington May 24, 1948 to Edward and Irene Davis, who preceded her in death, and is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lin Rogers, her daughters, Julie Kornegay (Brad), Leslie Moore (Troy), and grandchildren Jenna Kornegay, Katie Kornegay, Suzanne Moore, and Scott Moore, all of Wilmington. She is also survived by her sister, Mazie Warters, and brother, Edward James Davis, extended family members, and many very close friends that are like family.

Jessie graduated from New Hanover High School in 1966 and received a nursing degree from Wilmington College in 1969.  In the early years of her marriage to Lin, Jessie was a supportive military wife when he was drafted for the Vietnam Conflict.  Her love of caring for others led to a long, successful, almost 50 year nursing career as an RN in pediatrics and prenatal care at The Pediatric Center and Glen Meade OB/GYN. 

She was a local pioneer of the Lamaze child birthing method, which became a lifelong passion, and allowed her to touch countless lives. Jessie could not venture out without running into someone she had taught or counseled. When she was not caring for her patients, Jessie enjoyed working in the yard, boating with her family, combing the beach for seashells, or cheering on her beloved Wolfpack. She was well known for generously sharing her homemade bread, and her bread starter lives on all over town.  

After growing up at Seagate Baptist, Jessie and Lin joined Winter Park Baptist in 1978, where they found many lifelong friends, and she served the Lord by volunteering for youth trips, teaching Sunday School, or leading children in Bible Drill. Church and her relationship with the Lord was always a top priority in her life. Even more than her passion for nursing, she loved her family immensely.  Jessie taught her children and grandchildren to love the Lord and lean on their Christian faith in all of life’s circumstances.  

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 PM at Winter Park Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at an ice cream social immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Please feel free to wear spring colors.
