Joe Burney Peters

On Saturday morning, December 10, 2016, Joe Burney Peters, known affectionately to his family as Pop, passed from this life into the heavenly realm to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His wife and three children were by his side.

He was born May 13, 1934, the oldest of six sons born to Saraetta and Gibson N. Peters of White Oak, NC. He was married to Joanne Smith Peters for over 50 years until she was taken from us prematurely in 2005. He is survived by his wife Helen Peters, daughters Pam Chitwood and Diane Searle, and son Wayne Peters. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

He lived most of his life in Fayetteville, NC, where he operated Exxon service stations. He relocated to Wilmington in 1986 and operated Oleander Exxon and Wilmington Paint and Body Works.

A visitation for Mr. Joe Burney Peters will be held from 6PM until 8PM on Friday, December 17, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Arnold Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Park.
