
John spent his career in Pittsburgh, PA as the President of the Blackwell-Stevenson Company, a Sales and Marketing Brokerage Firm servicing the food industry.
He was a graduate of the Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA and then received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Washington and Jefferson College. Following college, John joined the 99th ARCOM Military Police Unit.
John was an avid golfer and was a member of the Valley Brook Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA and served as the President.
Upon selling the business and retiring, John moved to Wilmington, NC. He was a member, avid golfer and served on the Board of Directors for the Country Club of Landfall.
John was full of positive energy and had the ability to make laughter a priority in every human exchange. Both in youth and in adulthood, he was an athlete and sports fan. He cherished spending time with his friends and family playing golf, socializing and cheering on his favorite Pittsburgh sport team. His sweet nature and love for children and animals and his ability to see the positive and fun in every situation is a legacy he has passed on to his children, family, friends and grandchildren.
John’s wife, Martha “Marci” Blackwell, preceded him in passing in 2005. He is survived by his sister Martha Guillet of Silver Spring, MD; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Debra Blackwell of Pittsburgh, PA and daughter Sondra Davis of Apex, NC plus 5 grandchildren: Justin, John, Ryan, Charlee and Sophia. He is also survived by his dear friend Genie Cannon of Asheville, NC.
Family and Friends are invited to a celebration of John’s life Saturday, September 10th 6pm-9pm, Dye Clubhouse, Landfall, Wilmington NC. In lieu of flowers, please make charitable donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St Jude’s Children Hospital and the ASPCA.
