John Fulton Tucker, Jr. passed away on February 25, 2015. He was born November 29, 1928 in Chesterfield, S.C. to the late John Fulton Tucker, Sr. and Myrtle Shepherd Tucker. Fulton grew up in Wadesboro, N.C. He joined the Army at 17 and served as an MP in Japan at the end of WWII. He enjoyed sharing stories and photographs of his time there with friends and family. He married Martha Downer in 1951 and they settled in Wilmington in 1959 where they raised four children in a home on N. 18th Street. A well-known and respected businessman, Fulton managed and later purchased Mac's Auto Parts on 2nd Street in the building that now houses Ironclad Brewery, and two additional NAPA parts stores. His final business venture was C.V. Specialists. When he got a break from work, Fulton played golf and bridge. He enjoyed spending time on the beach with his family and was a member of the Hanover Seaside Club. With his son, he built a home on Topsail Island where he retired. He was a hard-working, no-nonsense, kind-hearted Southern gentleman, devoted to his family and well-loved in return. Fulton was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Martha, and his brother, Frank Tucker of Pinehurst. He is survived by his sisters Margaret Aldridge of Charlotte and Martha Lou Burroughs of Southern Pines, and a brother Perry Tucker of Fayetteville; his children, Diane Vosnock (Ed) of Castle Hayne, John F. Tucker, III (Freda Winters) of Surf City, Jane Tucker (Paul Joyce) of Falmouth, MA, and Laura Moseley (Steve) of Broomfield, CO; four grandchildren, Caroline Vosnock Thornton (Mark), Julia Vosnock, Tucker Moseley, and Reid Moseley, and one great-grandchild, Finn Thornton, and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his loving companion and close friend of the family Ann Donnell of Hampstead. The family would like to thank the staff of The Commons at Brightmore for the kindness and love provided to our father and to us while he was in their care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church on Market Street in Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of their choice.
