

John Winfred Garrett, 64, of Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at his residence. John was born on April 5, 1948, in Wilmington. He was a devoted son, brother, father and Paw-Paw who loved his family very much. He was proud to have been born and raised in Wilmington and to have been a lifelong resident of Wilmington. Johns career was as a plumber and pipefitter where he was a supervisor. He was proud to have worked with the construction of the Aquarium at Fort Fisher. John was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and horseback riding as well as being a NASCAR fan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor Garrett Wood, his father, Charles Winfred Garrett, and a brother, Charles Richardson Garrett. Surviving is a daughter, Katherine (Kay) Garrett Sanderson and husband Jaman; two sisters, Nancy Garrett Clark and Rebecca Jane Woodard and husband Alvin; grandchildren, Chelsea Willis, Jonathan Sanderson and Kaylee Sanderson; nieces and nephews, Colin Clark, Ashley Clark,Sarah Clark,John Saylor,Steven Saylor,Michael Saylor and Richard Saylor; and his friend, Elaine Smith. John is also survived by his daughter, Denise Finberg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
