

John Charles Harkey, of Rocky Point North Carolina, passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on June 1, 1947, in Charlotte, North Carolina, John lived a life marked by dedication to his work, love for his family, and enjoyment of life’s simple pleasures.
John built a respected career as a construction superintendent with Miller Builders Construction. His years in the field reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. He took pride in his role and the projects he helped bring to life.
Outside of work, John found joy in fishing, playing golf, and shooting pool pastimes that brought him relaxation and camaraderie. Whether casting a line or lining up a shot on the green or pool table, he embraced these moments with enthusiasm.
John was a member of Rileys Creek Baptist Church in Rocky Point.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Pat Harkey of Rocky Point; his daughters Brittney Rabern (Danny Kiely) of Wilmington and Sandra Suits of Wilmington; his sister Susan Helme of Oak Island; nephew Jason McDowell (Amy); great-nephews Jeffrey McDowell and Carson McDowell; sister-in-law Dottie Brown (Stan)of Gaffney South Carolina; grandchildren Samantha Johnson ( Zach Heim), Kase Delacruz, Archer Rabern; and great-grandchildren Xander Cobb, Alba Jean Heim, Hunter Heim, and Rowan Kiely.
John was preceded in death by his parents Fred G. Harkey and Annie Pope, as well as his son Vince Harkey.
