
John James Redmond of Wilmington, NC, died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was born on October 6, 1925 in Newark, NJ, the son of the late John J. Redmond and Marie (Maloney) Redmond. John was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Newark, NJ Police Department after twenty-seven years of service and then entered employment for thirteen additional years as an investigator with the NJ Public Advocate. John was preceded in death by his father John J. Redmond; his mother Marie C. Redmond, wife Jeanette Redmond; his daughter Marian J. Redmond-Lewis; sisters Irene Hathaway and Marian Tingley; and brother Edward Redmond. Surviving are his children John and (wife) Katie Redmond of Howell, NJ; Jean Marie Redmond of Wilmington; Kathleen Redmond of Wilmington; and grandchildren Rory and McCarthy Lewis, son-in-law Garnell Lewis of Atlanta, and Shane Redmond of Howell, NJ. He will be missed by all who knew him. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mark Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Monday, June 24, 2013. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
