

Joseph Frederick Augustine Jr., age 93, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Joseph was born October 3, 1927 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Mary Augustine and Joseph Frederick Augustine.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Ann Augustine, and granddaughter, Rachel Reedy Augustine.
Mr. Augustine is survived by his wife of 71 years, Carolyn Bishop Augustine; son Joseph “J.F.” Augustine III and wife of Teresa of Fredericksburg, Virginia; granddaughter, Lindsay Bishop Augustine; step granddaughter, Christine Onidi and step grandsons, Michael Kulikowski and Peter Onidi.
Mr. Augustine was a graduate of Allentown High School, where he was recognized as an outstanding athlete in football, wrestling, track and as an undefeated boxing champion. He achieved the highest award in Boy Scouts of America as an Eagle Scout and later went on to serve as a Counsel Director.
He received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of NC, Chapel Hill. While there he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Varsity Championship Football team, playing in both the Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl and a team player of the Wrestling team.
Mr. Augustine loved his community and had a passion to serve. He was the past President of the Wilmington Rotary Club, the Wilmington Executives Club, Cape Fear Sales and Marketing and the Wilmington Health and Safety School. He served as Emeritus Director of the Salvation Army Advisory Board for 25 years and past Director of the NC Citizens for Business and Industry Committee, the Wilmington Boys’ Choir and the Chambers of Easter, NC. He was past chairman of the United Cerebral Palsy Telethon, awarded life membership in NC and SC Chamber of Commerce Executives, and awarded outstanding Chamber Executive in NC and SC and past Executive Vice President of Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. He established, with his wife the Joseph F. And Carolyn B. Augustine Endowed Nursing School Scholarship at UNC- Wilmington and served on the UNC- Wilmington School of Nursing Advisory Board.
