

Joseph Donald (Don) Harrell, 81, of Wilmington passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. He was born on May 16, 1931 in Duplin Co. to the late Joseph and Nellie Pickett Harrell. He is also preceded in death by his wife Lucie F. Harrell. Don is survived by his three daughters, Kimberly Maultsby (Billy), Sheri Garrison (Warren) and Toby Peabody (Benjamin Hitch); step-son, Randall Smith; grandchildren, Wendy Godbey, Carrie Cox, Lauren Fox, Kelly Maultsby, Craig and Kristen Garrison, and Ava Peabody; and five great-grandchildren. He graduated from New Hanover High School after which he served his country honorably in the US Air Force. He then attended East Carolina University where he received a degree in accounting. Don was Director of Finance for the City of Wilmington and retired after twenty-five years of service. He was a member of Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church as well as the BPO Elks Lodge #532. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the compassionate and loving care given to their father during his illness. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home starting at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
