Joseph Elton Morgan

Joseph Elton Morgan, 99, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023 of natural causes at Woodbury Nursing Home. He was born in Johnston County, NC, July 20, 1923, son of the late Joseph Henry Morgan and Vida E. MorganIn addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Edwards.Surviving are two sons, Kenneth and Ricky of Wilmington.His extended family includes Dave and Kimberly Dillaman and son Brock, and Kelly Boan and son Joey.  Mr. Morgan was an Army Veteran of WWII.  He was an avid NASCAR fan that enjoyed fishing and vacationing in Florida.He worked in the textile industry and was employed at Spofford Mills and then Timmie Corporation. For a period of time he served his community by being a member of the Ogden Volunteer Fire Department. He retired in 1986. Afterward, he was a caregiver for his father who passed away in 1988.   In 1990 he opened a booth at the Starway Drive-In Flea Market called Joes Discount Goods, where for the next 30 years he sold watches, wallets and a wide variety of knives and cutlery. He closed the business in 2020 due to health issues.

A visitation for Mr. Morgan will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 1 to 2 PM. A graveside service will be held at 3 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Road, Wilmington.
