In loving memory of our mother, Judith G. Benson, who after a long and valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma, peacefully passed away on Thursday night, October 26, 2023. She spent several days prior saying goodbye to everyone who loved her and is now finally free of pain.
She was born on September 28, 1948 to Emmett and Eunice Gainey. Later she was blessed with a sister Deborah. She grew up and spent most of her life in North Carolina. Graduating from UNCW with a Batchelor’s in Accounting, she would follow that path into several careers including the movie studio located on 23rd Street (through its numerous iterations – NC Film Studios, D.E.G. Studios, Carolco Studios, EUE/Screen Gems Studios); starting and successfully managing a residential construction business, Stone Mill Builders, Inc. with her loving husband Donald E. Benson (whom she married in 1972); and finally working with Brunswick Senior Resources Inc. (BSRI).
Our mother was passionate about community and family and helped others anywhere and everywhere she could. Those touched by her knew she was a kind and gentle soul, always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a strong, tenacious woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Mom was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.
She was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister, and oldest daughter Tammy Bryant. She leaves behind two children Heather Leanne Benson and Roger Stanley, a niece Michelle Zavetsky, a brother-in-law, numerous cousins, two grandsons, and other nieces and nephews. She was a social butterfly who loved her family, friends and associates, various support groups and especially her Lady’s Circle.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to BSRI, as this organization was important to her and is invaluable to the Brunswick County communities (https://bsrinc.org/donate/).
Visitation will be held on October 31st at Andrews Mortuary from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral services will be held November 1st at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at 2pm. Interment will follow afterwards at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
