Judy Rooks

Judy was born on September 21, 1956 in New Hanover Co., NC. She was the daughter of Mildred Smith Barfoot and the late Leon Barfoot.

She worked as a nurse for several years, caring for her many patients as she would for her own family. In her spare time, she cherished spending time with her family and friends, as well as going for her daily jog and enjoying nature. She had a one – of – a kind personality as she was sweet and caring yet forthright in her feelings. Many can testify to her unmatched wit, which will undoubtedly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Barfoot; and two sisters, Shari Barfoot and Anita Merritt.

Judy was survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Leon P. Rooks; a devoted daughter, Kelly Dyer and her husband, Sean; mother, Mildred Smith Barfoot; sisters, Donna Dennison and Teresa Newton; brothers, Mark Barfoot and Steve Barfoot; a close friend, Barbara Barnhill and all the staff of Pender County Department of Correction, her pet, Gizmo and many many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday April 1, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 6:00PM at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Services, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday April 2, 2011 at Coble Ward Smith Funeral Services, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403 with Pastor Steve Jessen officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life.
