Julia 'Faye' Covil Pierce

‘Faye’, as she was known to most, was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late William Earl Covil and Lottie Whitney Covil, and grew up on her family’s farm with her four sisters and one brother. She graduated in 1948 from New Hanover High School. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for Tidewater Electric Company (later Carolina Power & Light), until she married the love of her life, Olen Pierce. Olen was a career Navy man, outgoing and gregarious. She was quiet and shy. He was the yin to her yang, the pumper to her nickel. They were perfect for each other, and were wholly devoted to each other until his death in 1999.

After being widowed, she found a new career – she worked for many years as a volunteer receptionist and office assistant at the United Cerebral Palsy Preschool, until she had to give up driving. She was practical and detail-oriented to a fault. She had no need for the ‘finer things’ of life, but lived simply and frugally, but was also generous with her material blessings.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Swanson and Wilma Auber, and her brother, John Covil.

She is survived by two sisters, Hilda Edens and Norma Moore, both of Hampstead, her daughter & son-in-law, Karen & Dwight Peterson, and three grandsons, Travis Peterson (Anne) of Bergen, Norway, Cory Peterson (Erin) and Micah Peterson (Megan) both of Wilmington. She is also survived by eight of the most adorable great-grandchildren: Aiden, Esther, Jesse, Zera, Lily, Josiah, Elijah, and Leilani. In addition to her blood family, she is survived by her ‘church family’ at Living Water Ministries, and a dear friend, Ms. Gelana Shuttleworth.

A simple graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive Wilmington, NC 28409. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
