
Julia (Carolyn) Dixon Stout, 80, died peacefully Sunday, February 4, 2018. She was born January 16, 1938, the daughter of the late Edward Arthur Coward Dixon and Julia Warters Dixon of Simpson, NC. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hal Vincent Stout, Sr.; three brothers, John Willis Dixon, Burwell Holland Dixon, Edward Earl Dixon; and one sister, Pearl Coward Dixon.
Mrs. Stout adored her children and grandchildren, was an avid gardener, enjoyed studying genealogy and loved animals and nature, especially, her cats and bird-watching. After graduating from East Carolina University, she began her teaching career in Franklin, VA before moving to Wilmington where she taught science for 30 years at Roland-Grise Middle School and E.A. Laney High School. She touched the minds and hearts of many and will be deeply missed.
Surviving is her son, Hal Vincent (Vince) Stout Jr. of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Julia Stout Siegel and husband Robert of New York, NY; grandchildren, Pierce Siegel and Katherine Siegel of New York, NY; sister, Barbara Dixon Tyson and husband Ralph of Greenville, NC; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and close friends.
A graveside service was held in the Fair Grove Methodist Church cemetery in the community of Whynot, which is near Seagrove, NC. If friends desire, remembrances may be made to pet adoption/animal rescue foundations. Two of Mrs. Stout's favorites were PetSmart Charities and the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center.
A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam and for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to the world. But then it flies on again and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it.
