Julie Cox Norman, 62, of Southport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Center. Born on May 24, 1964, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of Dr. William F. Cox, Jr., MD, and Kathryn R. Isley.
Julie was a vibrant, incredibly extroverted soul who never met a stranger. Known for her warm and caring personality, she had a rare gift for making anyone feel like an old friend within minutes of meeting them. She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially listening to classic rock, enjoying good Southern food, and spending time with those she loved.
Above all, Julie was a devoted mother who fiercely cherished her sons, Randall Allen Norman Jr., and Daniel Norman. She was also a loving sister to Katy Thiel, Claire Cox, and Will Cox, and she deeply treasured her four nieces and nephews. Julie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Randall (Randy) Allen Norman, in 2012.
She will be remembered for her quick wit, her sense of humor, and the stubborn strength that carried her through life and remained with her until the very end. She loved dogs, watching Food Network, and some of life’s simple comforts—Domino’s pizza, French dressing, and Diet Mountain Dew among them. Above all, Julie loved her family deeply, especially her sons, her stepmother Kathy, and treasured the people who meant the most to her. She also formed special bonds with those who cared for her, and she was dearly loved by the nursing home staff and residents, where her warmth, humor, and unmistakable spirit made her a cherished presence. Julie will be remembered with great love for the joy, personality, and spark she brought to the lives of those who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation.
