J.B. was a lifetime member of Presbyterian Churches serving as elder and deacon. He enjoyed playing golf and would often joke that he was lucky enough to get paid to play as part of his job.
He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He never met a stranger and embraced everyone he knew as part of his family. He generously gave of his time and resources to enhance the lives of others. He was a true Southern gentleman, loved by all and will be truly missed.
J.B. was the happiest when his family or friends were sitting on the porch at Ocean Isle Beach with him having a glass of red wine.
He was preceded in death by his parents James Worth Elkins and Ruth Ballantine Elkins, 7 siblings and his former wife Lou Ann Mason Sidbury. He is survived by his daughter Julie Fisher (Carlton), grandson Mason Fisher, and granddaughter Anna Bame (Carter) all of Wilmington NC. And his long time companion Mildred Hardwick of Whiteville, NC.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Brookdale Memory Care in Wilmington for their compassionate care and support.
