Kenny was born September 5, 1950, in Charlotte NC. He was the son of the late Henry and Marjorie (Crater) Rogers.
He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1968. After graduating from high school, he enlisted into the Air Force. He was stationed in Thailand where he met his first wife, Sukanya (Toi). He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1971. Kenneth and Toi had a son, Robert H. Rogers in 1973.
Kenneth was employed at Southern Bell in 1968 and retired after 30 years from BellSouth in March of 1999.
He met his 2nd wife, Sharon, in 1986 and they were married on June 6, 1987. They were married for 35 years and enjoyed traveling to many locations in the United States. They also loved to go on cruises as well as staying at different Sandals Resorts. Kenny couldn’t decide which he loved more, cruising or Sandals so they would alternate between them.
Kenny was a very easy-going man and there wasn’t much that would upset him. One of his favorite comments that he would make to anyone who hurt themselves was “I didn’t feel a thing”. He treated everyone the same, except his grandchildren whom he adored and spoiled every chance he got.
Sharon’s brothers and sister told him he was a saint because of the love and care he gave his father and mother-in-law while Sharon worked. He told them “Saint hood isn’t all it’s cracked up to be”.
He had a smile that lit up the room and he had a quirky sense of humor that brought a laugh and smile. He was able to tell a joke with such a straight face. His southern drawl charmed everyone he met. He referred to Sharon’s family as “outlaws” in a very loving way. He will be missed by so many people that loved him in so many ways.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon and his son Robert of Leland, NC; a grandson Kenneth (Shane) Rogers of Huntersville, NC; a granddaughter, Meagan Piraino and her husband Marco of Huntersville, NC, his great grandchildren, Nevaeh 8 and Lathan 4, also cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his brother, Ronnie Rogers, and his granddaughter Kayla Rogers.
There will be a Celebration of Life later.
