Kenneth Luke Lawson Myers

Kenneth Lawson Myers ""Luke"" Kenneth Lawson ""Luke"" Myers, 92, of Riegelwood, NC, went home to be with the Lord at 5:25 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2011, with his family at his side. Luke was born May 18, 1918 to Max F. and Annie Johnson Myers in Columbus County, NC. Both parents along with 5 sisters, Neresa Nelson, Inez Marshal, Burma Cravea, Anna M. Creech, Betty Collins and 4 brothers, Max F., Jr., James ""Judge"", Thomas, and William Houston ""Guinea"" Myers, preceded him in death. ""Guinea"" was killed in action during World War II. His wife of 42 years, Jennie M. ""Gee"" Myers, also preceded him. They both followed their vows, ""in sickness and in health"", while they were together. Luke served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1945. While stationed in Norfolk, VA, he chose a career in air conditioning and refrigeration. After his discharge he continued in this vocation and was part owner and founder of Jordan-Blanton-Myers Heating and Air. In 1960 he was hired by Riegel Paper Corp. and established their first, on sight, heating and air maintenance group. He retired in 1982 to take on his first ""real job"" hobby of tending farmland. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Myers and wife, Tillie, of Riegelwood, NC; two grandsons, Ken, Jr. and wife, Kimberly, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kelley and wife, Lisa, of Riegelwood, NC; special great-grandchildren, Samantha ""Sam"", Madison, Morgan, Molly, and Hannah, all of whom were his heartstrings; and caring niece, Betty Ann Cook and husband, Doug. He is also survived by three daughters, Sandra Keyser and husband, Bruce, of Seven Lakes, NC, Mary Jane Dyson, and Peggy Overton and husband, Bernie, all of Leland, NC; and special grandchildren, Tammy, John, Whitney, Brooke, and Josh. A very special ""thank you"" to Brenda Powers, who was caregiver to both Luke and Gee during Gee's latter years. To all our friends, thank you for your prayers and support. Luke was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church, where his service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 28, 2011, with The Rev. Charles Hester and Rev. John Porter officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm until the service hour and the burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riegelwood Baptist Church noting for Mobilizing to Build, 103 Highway 87, PO Box 568, Riegelwood, NC 28456, or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, noting for either the Wilmington Care Center or Whiteville Angel House.
