Kenneth L. Richards Kenneth L. Richards, 88, passed away on November 19, 2013 after a brief illness. Mr. Richards was born on June 4, 1925, in Springer, New Mexico. He was a true example of a "self-made man," supporting himself through high school, working in a coal mine, then starting some small businesses and owning Ken's Rental Center in Midland, Texas, for many years. On April 15, 1944 Ken married the love of his life, Geneva Yarbrough Burton, a beautiful widow with an 18-month old son, Harold Burton. A year later daughter Shirley joined the family. They enjoyed life in Midland and spent vacation time in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The Richards were active with the "Good Sams" and Holiday Rambler clubs and traveled all over the country in their motor home. They always had either a Chihuahua, a schnauzer, or both to keep them entertained. Ken was a lifetime member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and Shriners International. He and Geneva were always active in the Baptist church in their communities, and enjoyed Sunday School at Scotts Hill Baptist Church until they recently transferred to Anchor Baptist Church. The Richards moved to Wilmington in 2009 to be near their son Harold. Ken is survived by his wife, Geneva Richards, and son, Harold Burton (Julie) of Wilmington; sister, Mary Smith; grandchildren, Richard Burton (Natsuko), Lori Burton Laws (Ted), Steven Burton (Annette), Lisa Andrews Jack (Ben), Jason Andrews (Jana), and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughter, Shirley Richards Andrews and grandson, Brian Burton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 11:30am at Anchor Baptist Church, 300 Futch Creek Road, Wilmington. Memorial donations may be made to Anchor Baptist Church or to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219.
