Kenneth Murchison Sprunt Jr.

He was born on April 5, 1950, in Wilmington, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Murchison Sprunt and Elizabeth Long Sprunt, a son Kenneth Murchison Sprunt, III, and a daughter, Emory Dalziel Sprunt.

In his younger years, Kenny attended school in Wilmington. He attended preparatory school at Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg Virginia. He then attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Saint Andrews Presbyterian College. He was passionate about all UNC sports and loved being a “Tarheel”. Kenny was Vice President of Springer Eubank Oil Company until his retirement in 2005.

He was a great athlete and spent his summers at Wrightsville beach sailing, competing with his father in many sailboat regattas. He began surfing at a young age, and taught water skiing and was an accomplished barefoot skier. He never tired of the water. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling with Gloria, his beloved wife, to Europe and they spent many vacations in the Caribbean to enjoy the beautiful turquoise water.

Kenny was very well versed in history and loved to share his knowledge and stories, as he was a wonderful storyteller. He was a member of the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati, where he served as a past member of the standing committee. He was a member of the Society of Colonial wars in the District of Columbia, North Carolina, and Florida. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Kenny was a member of the Cape Fear Country Club, L’Ariosa German Club, Carolina Yacht Club and The Surf Club. An avid hunter and fisherman, and lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited, he spent many years at his family’s plantation in Brunswick County with his many friends duck hunting. He cherished those memories. As a Screen Actors Guild member, he enjoyed acting roles in several of the movies that were filmed at the plantation during the eighties.

Kenny was a true southern gentleman loved by many.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Gloria Clark Sprunt, his loving family, and many lifelong friends.
