Kevin Owen Spencer left us on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. He was raised in Leland and Wilmington, North Carolina, but made his home in Roebuck, South Carolina for the past 20 years.
Kevin was born in Wilmington on June 13, 1956, to Claudia Raynor Spencer Eames, who lovingly raised him alongside Philip “Tip” Eames. He graduated from North Brunswick High School and then from East Carolina University.
Kevin worked as a mechanical designer but was a gifted woodworker and inventive craftsman at heart. During retirement, he loved spending time landscaping his property, tinkering with functional designs, and turning bowls on his lathe. He took regular getaways to Las Vegas with his family, where many treasured memories were made.
Kevin was an absolute original. Blessed with a clever and silly disposition, he was the comedian of his family and took great pleasure in making people laugh. Loved ones will quote his witty mantras and humorous turns of phrase long into the future.
He cherished time spent with family at Wrightsville Beach and took pride in heading up their annual “Crater” dig.
Kevin leaves behind his former wife, Brenda Jablonski, and their two daughters, Lauren Spencer and Kara Spencer. He will be missed by his mother and stepfather, and also by his brother, Shaun Spencer (wife LouAnn Spencer), sister Debbie Spencer Child (husband Bobby Child), and sister Erin Spencer Dusard (husband Leo Dusard). His many nieces and nephews will warmly recall his playful and welcome harassment.
At 67, Kevin left this world much too soon. His spirit will remain a lifelong gift to everyone who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating Kevin’s life will be held Saturday, March 23rd at 3:00 PM at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412. The family will offer a reception after the service until 5:00 PM. Close family is invited for visitation from 2:00 PM until the time of service. It was Kevin’s wish that attendees wear primary colors (blue, red, and/or yellow), as he frequently incorporated them into his art. He will be laid to rest at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations in Kevin’s honor to the Humane Society of Spartanburg (https://spartanburghumane.org) and/or the American Cancer Society (https://donate.cancer.org).
