Larry Allen Barnes, Sr.

Larry A. Barnes, Sr., son of the late John E. and Gladys Blake Barnes, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2009, at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Larry grew up in Wilmington and graduated from NHHS. He married Rose Pargeter in 1950. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He worked as a printer, achieving Master Printer status. He then worked in heavy construction rising to Project Management. He was a Master Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was preceded in death by daughter Deborah Jean and wife Rose. He is survived by his sons Larry and wife Joni Barnes, Gary Barnes and Lila Boydston, grandchildren Deborah and Allan, and his beloved cat Squeeky. Services will be held at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, on Friday, July 31. There will be a gathering of family and friends beginning at 2 PM, followed by a chapel service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial be sent to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401.
