

Larry Swann Colvin, of Wilmington and Fleetwood Falls, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, January 7th, at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 9th, 1940, in Wilmington, NC, the son of James Dover Colvin and Tessie Swann Colvin. He was the husband of Judy Sloan Colvin.
Larry graduated from New Hanover High School in 1960. From 1957 to 1960, Larry was a member of the Wilmington Boxing Club, He won Golden Gloves and AAU championships throughout the Southeast. Larry was owner of the Cape Fear Barber Shop in downtown Wilmington for 42 years. He was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 231, of Pearsall Memorial Presbyterian Church from 1974 to 1987. Larry was also the subject of several New York Times lifestyle articles. He was an avid furniture maker, woodworker and bowl turner.
Larry leaves behind three wonderful and accomplished children, Ms. Sherri D. Colvin and partner Gary Cane of Wilmington, NC, Gregg Colvin, MD, and his wife, Liisa Ogburn, of Raleigh, NC, and Bryan Colvin, CPA, and wife Hillary, of Asheville, NC. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Aidan Alexander Colvin, Livia Elise Colvin and Sarah Dovia Colvin, all of Raleigh. He is survived by three brothers, James D. Colvin, Jr., and wife, Martha of Wilmington NC, Robert C. Colvin, and wife, Suzanne of Wilmington NC, and Daniel R. Colvin, and wife, Lisa of Candler NC.
He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Friday, January 15, 2016 at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
