

Leon E. ""Buzz"" Turner, Jr., 78, of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born in Pawling, NY, November 28, 1931, son of the late Leon Emory Turner, Sr. and Rita Cunningham Turner. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in the Korean conflict. For the last eighteen years of his life, he was co-owner of Hedquist Electronics and previously was a top-producing salesman. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Turner cherished the strong relationship he had with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a very charitable and giving man. Surviving is his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Jean Wall Turner; four children, Cathy T. Wilson, and husband Jim of Wilmington, Teresa T. Wilkins and husband John of Watha, Leon E. Turner, III and wife Kathy of Raleigh, and Wendy R. Turner of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Rob Blair, Matt Blair and wife Erin, Jessica Wilkins, Rebecca Wilkins, Kristen Blythe and husband Joshua, and Rachel Turner; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Blair, Abi Blair, and Zoe Blair; and extended family, W.K. Gaylor and Eric Gaylor and Rob Masterson and family. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Pine Valley Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by his grandson, Rev. Matt Blair, his son, Leon E. Turner, III. and Pastor Chuck Love. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Casey, James O'Rourke, Zachary Milam, Jeff Carter, Joshua Blythe, and Harold Wall. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time, and at other times will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Salvation Army, 820 N. 2nd Street, Wilmington, NC 28401, or a charity of individual choice.
