

Leonard Bascom ""L.B."" King, 88, of Carolina Beach, NC, died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Clare Bridge Alzheimer's and Dementia Care of Wilmington, NC. He was born in Seagrove, NC, the son of the late Bascom and Vellie King. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lee Parsons King. He was a US Army veteran of WWII receiving four Bronze medals while serving with the 13th infantry, Company B. In 1952, Leonard and Lee built King's Motel, on the oceanfront, of Carolina Beach. They owned and operated the motel until retirement in 1985. Throughout his life, Leonard enjoyed spending his time fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed growing tomatoes from his canal home and selling them to his neighbors and friends. He enjoyed the company of all who stopped by. L.B. is survived by brothers, Mike Sue King of Carolina Beach, Don King, Grady King and Reece King; sisters, Ida Auman, Gatha Bym, Molly Reeder and Doris Stevens, all of Seagrove, NC; nephews, Michael Mary Beth King of Kure Beach and Randall Amy King of Murrells Inlet, SC. The family will receive visitors from 6-8pm, Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Oleander Memorial Gardens with Rev. Chuck Love officiating. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Clare Bridge of Wilmington. Through their loving care, Leonard always felt he was at home and with family.
