Lillian May Powell Parsons

Death came to Mrs. Lillian Powell Parsons on Thursday, April 7, 2011 in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Funeral Services will be held in Oleander Memorial Gardens, Wilmington, North Carolina at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011. This will be a graveside service. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC.

Mrs. Parsons was born July 29, 1917, the older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Powell. She grew up in Harrells, North Carolina, completed public school at Franklin High, and followed this with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from what then was East Carolina Teachers College, Greenville, North Carolina, and later with a Master of Science Degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel, Hill, NC. For several years, she was associated with the North Carolina Public School System, with career employment in the Children’s Home Society of Florida, and the Florida State Department of Social Services, from which she retired.

Mrs. Parsons was preceded in death by her husband, the late R. O. Parsons, and her sister, the late Jean Lewis Powell Fitzgerald. Her survivors are a niece, Mrs. Sandra Lewis Fitzgerald Schiller, and her late husband’s niece, Mrs. Jo Lee Parsons MacLeod.
