Linda Almond Hill, 71, of Wilmington, NC, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior, the LORD Jesus Christ, for eternity while at home with her family on October 20th, 2025. She is now absent from the body and present with the LORD. Her body is at rest until the LORD returns to raise all those who sleep in Him. She fought a courageous battle with endometrial cancer, beginning in 2009, that led to a terminal diagnosis in 2015. Through the prayers of saints across the country and the grace of God, she was blessed to survive another ten years.
Linda was born on December 16, 1953, to Everette Keith Almond and Clara Mae Almond. She loved her childhood growing up with her sisters, Ann, Rosemary, and brother, Keith, in Albemarle, North Carolina. Linda grew up with a strong work ethic. At the age of 16, she started working at Albemarle’s favorite ice cream joint, the Good-O. During these years, a youth leader encouraged her to start studying the Bible. On a group trip, a leader asked them the question, “What makes you tick? Whatever it is, is it worth it?” Linda realized she was a sinner, and the only thing worth dedicating her life to is Jesus Christ, whom she accepted as her LORD and Savior. Later, after going on a date to the Jr-Sr prom with William Hill, who had also joined the Bible study group, the two of them and her younger sister, Rosemary, began working during the summer at Albemarle’s favorite seafood restaurant, Jay’s Seafood. After work, the three would go to Rock Creek Park to play tennis, and thus she gained her love for the game.
While attending Lenoir-Rhyne College for one year, Linda was a member of the tennis team. Trips every weekend to get together with William sealed their commitment to later marry after graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education in 1976. She was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Linda loved teaching and began her career as a teaching assistant in the Wake County Public School System. Later, she was offered a position as a teacher, filling in for someone on maternity leave. Linda and that teacher became lifelong friends.
Linda’s teaching position changed every year to different grade levels, but she persisted without complaint. She taught for eight years to put William through engineering school and then shifted her focus to her children’s education. For 25 years, she was the treasurer, bookkeeper, and ‘air traffic controller’ for her husband’s consulting firm, Air by Design. She enjoyed an active lifestyle with her family, church family, and tennis companions. She often instructed her children, ‘Go get some exercise and do something for someone else.’
Linda’s life was characterized by determination, compassion, and a commitment to serving others. She loved making others feel important and celebrated. Her determination displayed on the tennis court and in the classroom translated into a remarkable fight against cancer, where she regularly beat the projections. Her friends and family experienced her compassion and sacrificial love time after time.
Linda served in various roles at the Wilmington Bible Chapel, including singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, serving as Sunday School Co-Superintendent and co-directing Christmas programs with her husband, and volunteering on the Ladies Service Committee. For many years, she hosted a Christmas party with Christmas caroling in the neighborhood, followed by caroling at a local care facility. She and Bill loved hosting a meal once a week for college students, sharing Christ’s love through her service and his devotions. Her love and her service for others grew out of her personal understanding of the Lord Jesus Christ’s love for her.
She enjoyed visiting with her many friends and spending time with her extended Hill-Almond-Gantt families at Lake Tillery. Some of her favorite things included flowers, tennis, pickleball, sweet tea, and Mountain Dew. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader, and she enjoyed watching college football and basketball, playing tennis, reading Christian fiction, playing games, putting together puzzles, sharing meals, singing hymns with others, and celebrating holidays with family. One of the great joys of Linda’s life was being able to see her children get married and welcome three precious grandchildren into the world. She was a devoted mother and loved her grandchildren dearly.
Upon celebrating her 70th birthday, Linda said, ‘God’s grace is sufficient for me. Most gladly I will glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me!’
Linda is survived by her husband Bill Hill; her children, Daniel (Susanna) Hill of Wilmington, and April (Chuck) Frost of Conway, SC; her grandchildren Myra, David, and Clara; her sisters, Ann (Tom) Allgood and Rosemary (Eddie) Thomas, and brother Keith (Amber) Almond; and nephews and a niece whom she loved.
The family would like to thank the dedicated fellow saints and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their prayers and care for Linda in her final days.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 24th, from 4:30-7:30pm at Coble Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Shipyard Blvd. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 1pm at Wilmington Bible Chapel at 100 Chapel Way, Wilmington, NC. A graveside service will be held after the funeral at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
The family would encourage all who wish to wear pink or floral attire to do so in Linda’s honor at the services.
