Loyd James Mintz

Loyd was born on August 22, 1923 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Benjamin Julius Mintz and Lavada Kate Sellers Mintz. Loyd is also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Mintz; son, Jamie Mintz; brother, Julius Mintz and two sisters, Ethel Mintz Smith and Loretta Mercer.

Loyd was a WWII veteran, having served his country as an artilleryman with the 88th Infantry in Italy. He was in love with the outdoors and was an aquatic gardener for 68 years, owning and operating Winter Park Water Gardens. Loyd was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.

Loyd is survived by his dog, Darlin who is left in the caring hands of his daughter, Jill Schatz and her husband, Jeff Schatz; grandchildren: Heather Lynde- Lowery, Danny Burns, Nikki Mintz, Amy Mintz, Raina Brothers, Michael Harrison; three great- grandchildren, Elijah Lynde, Wyatt James Burns and Hannah Harrison.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Green lawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412 with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to New Hanover Animal Shelter or Lower Care Fear Hospice.
