Lynnis Howard Matthews

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Crider Matthews, with whom they lovingly raised four children, Tommy, Harold, Becky, and Julie.

Lynnis was a devout Christian for his entire adult life and a wonderful family leader and reveled in the fact that he raised a large family and managed never to miss a single week’s tithing to God and his Church.

He was a master machinist by trade and was highly respected by his peers. He most enjoyed time with his family and will be dearly missed. Lynnis was an avid fisherman and quail hunter.

Also he was preceded in death by his second wife, Catherine Tucker Matthews; daughter, Myra Rebecca Matthews Morgan; parents, Aaron Matthews and Cattie Matthews Parnell; brothers, Lowell Matthews, Levi Matthews, Lewis Matthews, and Bud Parnell.

He is survived by one sister, Gwen Wicker, of Sanford, NC; two sons, Thomas Aaron Matthews and wife Sally, Joseph Harold Matthews and wife Ann, one daughter; Julia Layne Matthews Bussells and husband Ernie, eight grandchildren; Thomas Aaron Matthews Jr. and wife Lou Ann, Jay Brian Matthews and wife Jennifer, William Travis Wiley, Debra Lynn Matthews Hayes and husband Bill, Joseph Harold Matthews Jr. and wife Deanna, Louis Aaron Bussells, Carl William Bussells and wife Allison, Lorie Ann Morgan, son-in-law Michael W. Morgan. His great grandchildren include Taylor(Aaron and Lou Ann), Trevor and Bryce(Jay and Jennifer), Sarah and Matthew(Debi and Bill), Joey and Jenna-Ann(Joe and Deanna).

Lynnis was a long standing member of the Church of God in Charlotte and presently at Pine Valley Church of God in Wilmington. His rich sense of humor was always present and his childhood stories and songs are a treasure. He loved singing, especially songs about his faith. His sense of loyalty to his family was always evident, and his faithfulness and kindness were a blessing to all.

The family will receive friends at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home on June 14, 2013, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A service will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home on June 15, 2013, at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
