Margaret Mae Mitchell Ashcraft, 82, of Leland, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, October 25, 2023. Margaret was the youngest child of the late Marguerite Tasker Mitchell and late Ben Franklin Mitchell of Louisville, KY. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Harold Ashcraft of 57 years. Eddie and Margaret have three boys, Mark Ashcraft (Michelle) of Mansfield Georgia, Mike Ashcraft (Julie) of Wilmington, NC, and Brian Ashcraft (Erica) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Eddie and Margaret (aka “Memommy”) have six grandchildren, Madison Ashcraft Goslee (Carson), Kaitlyn Ashcraft, Michaela Ashcraft, Emily Ashcraft, Alexandra Ashcraft, and Luke Ashcraft and one great-granddaughter, Lennon Parker Goslee.
Margaret and Eddie served many churches over the course of Eddie’s career in ministry. She would play the piano or organ while Eddie led choir and congregation as a Music Minister. Her favorite hymn to lead was “It Is Well with My Soul.” She retired from Fulton County Schools where she was the Media Specialist & Librarian for over 40 years, impacting thousands of students across her remarkable career. Beyond her career and ministry, she was devoted to her family. As a mom of three, Margaret spent countless hours on the ball field, reading books at bedtime, and handling the carnage created by her three sons. Later, her joy was found in spoiling her six grandchildren. Endless crafts, Memommy Camp, road trips, tye-dyed shirts, zoo and aquarium visits, and white powdered donuts were things that her grandchildren will remember her for. Since moving to North Carolina in 2018, Margaret and Eddie enjoyed retirement with each other as they made new friends in their community. The adventure continued in Leland with bike rides, card games, walks, and exploring new places.
Memommy will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but there is so much hope that she is rejoicing with their Heavenly Father whom she lived her life for.
A service in her honor will be held at Port City Community Church, 250 Vision Dr. in Wilmington, NC 28403 on Monday, October 30th, at 2 PM. All are welcome to join as we gather to honor her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Port City Community Church, Pine Valley Baptist Church, or the Alzheimer's Association. The entire Ashcraft family would like to thank everyone for all the love and support we have received.
