Margaret Tucker Payne

      She is survived by her daughter Margaret Tucker “Peggy” Payne and her daughter’s husband Dr. Robert Marcus Dick II of Chatham County, NC; two sons, Francis Marion “Franc” Payne and his wife Willa Gupton Payne of Wilmington, NC and Harry Eugene Payne, Jr., and his wife Ruth Sheehan of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her grandsons Walker Harrison Payne, Harry Eugene Payne III, Sheehan Tucker Payne, and Franklin Josephus Payne, and by her two step-grandsons, Charles Dick and William Chiapa.

     She was predeceased by her sister, Harriett Tucker Taylor.

     Mrs. Payne was a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. With her husband, she owned and operated Payne’s clothing stores. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Cape Fear Country Club.

     The memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday Oct. 15. In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to Friends of UNC-Wilmington, where Mrs. Payne served on the organizing board, or to Grace United Methodist Church, where she has always been active.

     The family will be at 2211 S. Canterbury Road, Wilmington, after the service and reception.
