

Margaret (Peggy) Hagerman White died peacefully on November 29, 2017 at the age of 91 in Wilmington, NC. She was born on October 25, 1926 in Birmingham, AL to Alice and Michael Hugh Taylor. Her family moved to Newport, DE when she was young. She graduated from Henry C. Conrad High School then attended both Eastern Nazarene College in Wolston, MA and the Goldey Beacon School of Business in Delaware. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was predeceased by her beloved son, James Hagerman (1992), and husbands Stewart White (2009), Scott Hagerman (1989), and Michael O’Neill (1960).
She is survived by her loving daughters, Eileen Standerwick and her husband Bill of Bluffton, SC and Peggy Hayes and her husband Dexter of Wilmington, NC, four grandchildren, Christina Hayes Chandler, Justin Hagerman, Meredith Hayes, and Holley Hagerman, and two great grandchildren, Naomi and Jude Hayes Chandler.
Peggy lived and raised her family in Wilmington, DE then moved to Marco Island, FL in 1980. She was a gracious hostess known for her wonderful dinners and parties. She was a dedicated community volunteer and leader on Marco Island. She was a Trustee and Secretary of the Marco Island Hospital Inc. for six years and was President of the Hospital Auxiliary for two years, being honored as well for her 25 years of service. She also served as president of the Women’s Club, board member of the Alumnae Club, and secretary of the Cruise Club. She was a deacon and trustee of the United Church of Marco Island. In 2008 Peggy and Stu moved to a senior living community in Naples, FL. After Stu passed, she moved to Wilmington, NC in 2011 to be closer to her family.
Her family is very appreciative of the care she received from the dedicated staff of the Davis Community and Lower Cape Fear Hospice. In particular, she developed a special friendship and bond with Rosalie Eldridge, her companion and personal caregiver for a number of years.
Memorial services will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 10, 2018, at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington. NC 28401 or to the United Church of Marco Island, 320 North Barfield Drive, Marco Island, FL 34145, or to a charity of one’s choice.
