Margaret Louise Young

Margaret was born on December 11, 1935, in Charlotte, North Carolina to parents Frederick Richard Young and Julia Mae Henry. Margaret graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. She completed her education at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and graduated with her bachelor’s degree.

Margaret was a hard-working entrepreneur. During her career, Margaret owned and ran the Ski Shack in Charlotte, worked as an interior decorator for Ethan Allen and for many years served as a realtor / broker in both Lake Norman and Carolina Beach.

Margaret loved Ikebana, Japanese flower arranging, and achieved master status in this art form. She and her husband, Charles T. Highfill, were married on June 28, 1997. Together, they developed several multi-family properties on Carolina Beach including the condo building overlooking the inlet that they both loved. Margaret was an active real estate agent and broker in Carolina Beach until her mid-80s.

From son Roger Little: I loved her with my soul. She always supported any of my endeavors with eternal optimism. She lived the life she chose to live.

From son Laird Little: she was an incredible Mom from as early as I can remember. She taught me a lot about life both good and bad. I am happy she enjoyed her twilight years in Carolina Beach with Charlie.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Julia Young, her brothers, Charles Young and Fred Young. Survivors include husband; Charles T. Highfill, sons; Roger Girard Little II and his wife Dansie, Laird Dean Little and his wife Julie, daughter; Randi Louise Smith; grandchildren; Marlee Caroline Roos and her husband Bryce, Shelby Diane Little, Ryan Laird Little and Brysen Louise Smith, great grandchildren; Watson Lee Roos.

Also survived by her extended family of step children; Wisdom Highfill Stikeleather and her husband Tom, Charles Thomas Highfill Jr. and his wife Malinda, Patricia Highfill DiLello and her husband Michael, step grandchildren; Kayleigh Renee Highfill, James Thomas Stikeleather III and his wife Brittany, Wisdom Burris Boyne and her husband Steven, Charlton Stikeleather Swift and her husband Steven, Meredith Highfill Minscher and her husband John, Victoria Bradshaw Highfill, Maxwell Ernest DiLello, step great grandchildren; Carolina Faith Stikeleather, Mackenzie Pearl Stikeleather, and Brooklyn Wisdom Swift.
