She was born in Enfield, NC on April 6th, 1949.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, mother, father and brother.
Marietta started her career at Morgan Stanley, raised her three beautiful children in Brooklyn, NY before retiring from the NYC MTA as a bus driver and union representative for TWU Local 100.
She was a Godly woman who prayed and put her faith in God. She was a beautiful soul sent to lift others up no matter their issue or need.
Marietta was a Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother, cousin and friend who embodied the best qualities that any human can possess.
Not only a profound spirit, but a force to be reckoned with when it came to the things she cared about and entrusted her soul in.
She stood for the little guys and brought life into civil rights, social justice issues, human rights and equality impacting the world in the ways necessary for change.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Thrower of 48 years; daughters: Khalilah Olokunola and husband Alafeez, Iesha Thrower and Davinna Thrower; grandchildren: Shamiya Bennett, Phazon Vasconcellos, Avinna Vasconcellos, Kairo Olokunola, Adam Olokunola, Stacy McNair and Riley Vascellaro; great grandchildren: Nova Bennett & Addelyn Vasconcellos; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends .
She lived a life of purpose, pouring into others the love that existed within her. She has touched so many lives and inspired others to be both genuine and loving to those around them. That is why she was so loved.
A Visitation will be held at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC from 1-2pm on Saturday, October 16, 2021. The Funeral will follow at 2pm. The Burial will be immediately after the Funeral Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in the Garden of Hope, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington NC.
The Celebration of Life Repass will be held at The Sanctuary of Wilmington, 6687 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington NC, immediately following the burial.
All expressions of sympathy, including flowers, cards & honorary donations can be made to Marietta’s House. Marietta’s House is a resource home founded in Marietta’s honor that will provide tools for hope, help, health & healing for individuals and their loved ones battling cancer. Donations will allow Marietta's House to supply Care Kits (given to loved ones who are caregivers in an effort to bring them hope, health & helpful resources) and Memorial Garden Kits (for families who have lost loved ones to cancer and want to create a memorial garden in their honor).
