Marjorie Elizabeth Smith Roer

Marjorie Elizabeth Smith Roer (Margie) passed away peacefully on September 18th from the effects of cardiac arrest. Margie was born on September 17, 1951, to the late William and Betty Smith of Stanley, NC. She was a brilliant, kind and loving person, a voracious reader, with a quick and inquisitive mind, and a keen sense of humor.

Margie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bob, her daughter, Sara (Katt Baum and Kieran Grosman), sisters Gretchen (Carl Price) and Kitty Saunders, brother Barry Smith (Pat), her life-long best friend and “sister”, Betsey Dellinger, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, in-laws, and many close friends.

Margie graduated from Duke University with a B.A. in Zoology and went on to a long career with Applied Analytical Industries (AAI Pharma, Alchemy). In retirement, she enjoyed playing cards every Tuesday with her good friends, traveling with Bob, relishing fine food and wine, engaging in refined retail therapy, and being with her family.

Margie was a caring, warm and adoring mother to Sara and a loving wife and best friend to Bob, and an inspiration to us all. She will be missed more than words can express.
