Mrs. Marjorie Louise (Trago) Thompson passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 due to complications of Interstitial Lung Disease (https://www.lung.org/lung-health-diseases/lung-disease-lookup/interstitial-lung-disease). She was surrounded by the people she loved the most and the people who loved her the most – her husband, her children, and her grandchildren.
Marjorie was born on December 15, 1953 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She grew up in the Philadelphia area and graduated from Springfield High School (Springfield, PA) in 1972. On June 30, 1973, she married her best friend, Mr. James Emil Thompson. They’ve been married for almost fifty years. Together they had three children – Jennifer, James, and Matthew.
Marjorie was an Army wife. She followed her husband from Philadelphia to Ft. McCoy, WI, Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA, Ft. Snelling, MN, and Washington, DC. At Ft. McCoy, she began a career as an administrative professional that spanned more than three decades across multiple agencies including the Army Corps of Engineers (St. Paul, MN), the Army National Guard/National Guard Bureau (Arlington, VA), and the United States Mint (Washington, DC). In 2018, she retired with 22 years of service from the United States Mint.
Above all else, Marge ("Mag" to her family and close friends) was a beloved wife, mother, and friend. For years, she followed her boys to hockey tournament after hockey tournament. And later, her granddaughter to multiple dance recitals and dance competitions. From 2004 – 2006, she was the glue that held the family together through three deployments to Iraq. In retirement, she thought nothing of driving across the country to “baby-sit” her grandkids or her grand-dogs. She and her daughter Jennifer learned to knit together in 2012. They enjoyed visiting yarn stores together and spent many Saturdays knitting and watching NCIS or Law & Order reruns on the USA Network.
In 2018, Jim and Marge retired to the Wilmington, NC area where Marge vowed to swim in the ocean every day – she loved the ocean and the beach. Marge loved her flower garden and was a dedicated Bible Study Fellowship group leader. Her favorite time of day was around 2:00 pm when she and Jim would take their “break” and enjoy a cold beer and a snack on their screened in porch.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Russell (Thelma) Trago; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James (Marjorie) Thompson; her sister, Mrs. Rita (Trago) Volz; her brother, Mr. Russell (Joan) Trago; her brother-in-law, Mr. John Thompson; and her grandson, Brayden Binford. She is survived by her husband, Mr. James Thompson; her three children: Ms. Jennifer (Scott Dewlen) Thompson, Mr. James (Adriane Sevelin) Thompson, Mr. Matthew (Jackie) Thompson; brother-in-law, Mr. Jeffrey (Deborah) Thompson; her grandchildren: Ms. Kayla Delaney, Mr. Warryn (Kelly) Thompson, Mr. Matthew Thompson, Jr), Mr. Aidan Anez, and Ms. Victoria Thompson; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, 1209 Lake Park Blvd N, Carolina Beach, NC 28428, where a Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until time of services. Private interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery on Friday, March 18, 2023. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Marge’s memory via the link to the American Lung Association.
